As you might have read we were planning a Cobia trip on May 19th. Well it just so happens this is also the Beaufort Water Festival Fishing Tournament. Of course, there are no mention of Kayaks in the rules. They do call for max 4 man teams, increasable to 6 man teams. So, I fired off an e-mail pleadeing a possible case for us. It reads:
Dear Sirs;
With the increased popularity of Kayak Fishing. Is it possible for some sort of compromise be made, so we can participate on an even keel with other boat fisherman? Obviously we can not have a crew of 4-6 people. Granted, if we each paid $150 per boat, it would sure increase the “Pot”. But this would put us at an extreme disadvantage.
Is it possible for there to be a more equal payment for kayakers to participate. …or perhaps can the rules be amended as to allow for possibly a four man Kayak team (…who would fish together, split their entrance fees and split all prize monies…just like the larger boats).
Due to the increased popularity in Kayak fishing, I have passed this idea to “numerous” area Kayak fisherman. Please expect more emails about this matter.
