Beautiful yesterday, Dolphin bite was still around

Man was it nice out there yesterday. By far the best conditions we’ve fished this season. Didn’t see many other boats other than a few sporties out deep.

We started out at the ledge trying to land a couple wahoo, but that didn’t pan out. Decided to run out to 1000ft around 226 hole. We put out our sailfish spread and found a MASSIVE weedline that lasted for miles heading north. Started working it and surprisingly hooked the world’s smallest dolphin on the outside rigger using a Black Bart’s pelagic breakfast lure. It was so small we dragged him for about 200 yards before I realized he was on as the clip never released and the drag didn’t budge at all. He wasn’t in good shape when we got him to the boat, so he went in the box. Shortly thereafter, WHAM, both port side riggers went off. It was so flat calm that we actually got to see one of the dolphin jump airborne out from under the weed line and attack the bait. Super cool to see him hit it like that.

After a few more hits and short strikes totalling 10 , the bite stopped. While the size definitely has decreased compared to what we were catching in the spring, I was shocked that we had consistent action this late in the season.

We decided to head to Commanche and bottom bump a bit. Ended up getting a slew of porgies that we sent back, a vermillion, a reef donkey that still has my back singing, and a nice size King Mack that will make his way to the smoker on Friday. Everything was caught on remaining cut ballyhoo and butterfly jigs.

Super fun day out on the lake.

Enjoyed report - thanks.

Love to see it that slick! Good to see yall did well!

How do you like your Tidewater? Saw them at the boatshow this year and really liked them. What size is she?

The tidewater is actually my buddy’s boat. We fish each other’s boats frequently depending on if we do nearshore or offshore. I’m in a 22 Sea Hunt, he has the 257 Tidewater. The Tidewater handles the open water quite well, has a massive bow flare which deflects spray/waves well and keeps us dry. Even with the twin 150s, it can get up to 50mph+ loaded down. I think he would tell you the same thing as I would in that there’s certain features we’d both change in each of our boats, but overall they get the job done for the mid-tier price point.
