Been Busy

working my rump off on this new addition.

How much would you charge me to duplicate that on my property

Hunting, fishing, and poker are my sports. Work when necessary.

What part? The field or the stand or both? What time frame? helping you or doing it myself from scratch? Do you have the material? I got most of the wood for the stand for free from a good buddy of mine, but I still have at least $1500 in the thing (bought the scenttite blind separately for the top). It is 18’ to the bottom of the box though, and I could park my tractor on top because it is so strong (at leat 15 pounds of screws, 10lbs of nails, and bolts are freaking expensive, you gotta have em to make it strong). Still have to finish mine in the next couple of weeks. The field…ummm, I’m inclined to say no way if you have a bunch of gum tree stumps. Otherwise, the tractor and the box blade does quick work for little stuff.

Might I ask why? ( the fancy gun rest that is)

I used a board. I used a shooting stick. I used bean bags. None of them are near as good as the Caldwell Deadshot Treepod. I can put a bullet–literally–through a deer’s eye ball at 200 yards off of that thing. Since I have a Rem 700 Varmint SF chambered in .308 with Stainless 26" fluted heavy barrel, and VX6 3x18x50mm with fire dot reticle, hitting the same bullet hole at 100 yards is NOoooo problem at all. When I pull the trigger, I intend for it to be dead, and I don’t like looking for wounded deer anymore. I hate junk, but the Treepod is not junk. It really works. Shot this guy at 150 yards with about 3 seconds before he crossed my road. Yeah…ha,ha…he didn’t make it! It is about one shot, one kill ethical shots everytime for me. Oh, and I can use my binos while the rifle is at the ready at all times. I’m on duty tonight, so I am bored.

You got that right! I did most of it by myself too. The dock pilings are probably 500 lbs a piece. Sooooo glad I have tractor with a bucket now. The field was actually more work than the stand. I have pulled at least 40 stumps so far, and I have more to go. Almost done though. Im planting corn as a screen in April, and the I will plant oats between the rows in the fall. It is 18’ to the bottom of the box on top. It is up there a little bit…haha.

I won’t ask why cause I shake like a leaf in a hurricane. I’ve learned to compensate for my shake, but give me a stable rest anytime and I’ll take it.

Skeeter that is cool!

Just a quick guess on your land and you wanting to put corn there. I guess it could use a heavy dose of lime and depending sun you may need to knock down a few more trees if they shade your cleared area too much. Corn needs sun, likes fertilizer, and loves some nitrogen. Try some field peas after your corn starts tossling and let them climb the corn. Buy a couple of dollars of turnip seeds and throw them in the mix as well.

Thanks for sharing, nice set up.

Thanks Fred. I appreciate the advice. I have been thinking about some of those very things you mentioned. Im going to be right on the edge for sun light, but I feel confident that I have beaten the jungle back far enough. Just got to get er done now. 10-4 on a stable rest too…that is why I have it.
