Work has piked up a lot lately, so have had to take a forced hiatus from fishing. Over the weekend I was able to carve out some time to soak some lines. After netting a bucket load of shrimp and mullet, I got down to some serious fishing. From about 6:00 pm when I started till sundown it was all I could do to keep the undersized red drum and flounder, whiting, and small sharks off the line. Shortly after dark, a large rod that I had set out with a big bait in a nice cut bent in half and line started ripping out, which was awesome, until the line got wrapped around the tail of what I am assuming as a larger shark, which was less cool. I hooked a large bonnet head, and was bringing it closer to the beach when it broke the line off on some oysters. After re-rigging my lighter rod, I pulled in a nice, healthy 20" sea trout. Then I ended my evening with a 40" bonnet head. Both of which were released to fight another day. All in all, a pretty nice return to some fishing action, now I just need to find some time to throw the kayak back in the water, it’s starting to feel lonely in the back yard.
