Beginner fly fishing setup

I’ve never fly fished before but I have been wanting to try it. What is a good starter setup for reds on the flats?

Go by haddrells point tackle west ashely, and talk to Simon. Hes got some great redingotn setups for the $200 range. I used to have a $500 setup and it got stolen, so to get back in the game i bought one of these rods and like it more than my old one

19’ Key West CC 140 Johnson
16’ War Eagle 40 Yami
12’ Alumacraft 1954 Johnson 5.5

can you swim 5 miles? “NO” then what is the difference in 5 miles and 50 miles!!! Go for it!

Just got a TFO BVK 8wt. Great rod at a very economical price. Check out the reviews online. Also has a very good warranty. You could do fine with most reels as long as they could handle the salt exposure. BVK is available at LCFS and the Angler.

Thank you for the help. I know nothing about this stuff. Is this a good setup? http://www.ebay.com/itm/REDINGTON-PATH-990-4-9-9-WT-4-PC-SALTWATER-FLY-ROD-REEL-COMBO-OUTFIT-FREE-SHIP-/151509092615?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2346a54907

Don’t know much about the rod but would be a good place to start with that price point. The line alone would cost $80-90. May want to consider an 8wt as the 9 will prob be overkill for most fish around here. The advantage of the 9 is that it may be easier to cast in the wind but you may give up some accuracy on your shorter shots and stealthiness when the line hits the water depending on the rod’s action. Again, hard to say since I don’t know much about the rod. I really recommend going to a local shop and testing them out. The extra cash you spend is well worth getting your hands on the outfit before committing and the expert advise you get.

Thanks, I'm gonna wait and look at what my local shop has before I make a purchase.
