Heading to Lake Murray this weekend and thought I may take my sons fishing behind dam for trout and possibly some stripers… I have a small 12’ jon boat and was wondering if there is a landing behind dam. I’ve never been down there and was wondering if yall had any recommendations… where to put in, etc…
Thanks!
Saluda Shoals Park is on the Irmo side of the river (Old Bush River Rd). On the Lexington side of the river is a free landing off Corley Mill Rd. I normally refer to it as Brokeback Boat Ramp, but it’s official name is actually James Metts landing.
Check the regs before you go. I’m not 100% sure, but I believe it’s illegal to even attempt to fish for stripers in the river right now.

from Lake murray dam and everything below:
it is unlawful to take or attempt to take any striped bass from Jun. 1st through Sept. 30th. Any striped bass taken must be returned immediately to the waters from where it came. From Oct. 1st through May 31st 3 fish per day, 26-inch minimum size limit, fish must be landed with head and tail intact.
I did hear they are going to allow catch and release in the saluda next year. Might be some bigger trout around that have not been eaten by stripers.
thanks for the info…I didn’t realize that. I’ll stick to trout.
thanks
Effective tomorrow (July 1) catch and release only fishing will be allowed during the summer months on the Lower Saluda. However, if you are not familiar with the Saluda I don’t think it’s good idea to fish out of a 12’ jon boat; that’s a bit small.
