Believe it or Not

Called Henry’s this morning and She assured me they had Fish Meal in stock. Got there and was told Baitbinder at $32 a bag is now what is legal. You see - the clay we have been using all along Kaolin - (which is used in more products than I can name) is a cancer causing agent - and has been outlawed and illegal to sell ???
Okay 1. I am annoyed that I was misled i.e. lied to that they had Fish Meal in stock.
2. Concerned that I had no flipping idea that Kaolin was such a bad thing and nobody here on the Shrimping forum has said anything about it and we all in peril of the big C.

Now that that is off my chest, where can I buy good ol Fish Meal around here ??? Please.

Oh, that is all true about what I was told.

Conway feed and garden center has it, Georgetown ice is out, but they say they are getting more in soon

OMC Orangeburg Milling Company ,Mr. Perry will set you up.

I get mine at Red Top Feed and Farm Supply on 17. I haven’t gotten any this year so I don’t know about the clay. Luckily I have a protective layer of tar covering my lungs so I don’t have to worry about the clay giving me cancer. They have always had the good Daybrook fish meal. I have purchased the brown bags from other places in the past, and they were cut with corn.

Where’s the evidence that kaolin causes cancer? If you breath in kaolin at high concentrations for long periods of time it can cause lung issues. But it’s also used pharmaceutically. According to the National Library of Medicine and the NIH…
“Evidence for Carcinogenicity:
A4; Not classifiable as a human carcinogen.”

very strange that you would be told that it’s illegal to sell it. Especially since it’s used medically. WebMD.com.
…Kaolin is used for mild-to-moderate diarrhea, severe diarrhea (dysentery), and cholera.

Kaolin is sometimes applied to wounds to help stop bleeding. It may also be applied to the skin to dry or soften the skin.

The first mistake you made was going to Henrys, how they’ve stayed in Business is beyond me, pure trash. Orangeburg Milling has it.

Hi Everybody, thanks for the reply.
I found 2 bags of Fish Meal at Seewee Outpost, they have one left. Westbrook Ace in Harleyville have both Meal and Clay. Red Top is closer than Harleyville so that where I will go.
Henrys and Haddrells were the only game in town 30 yrs ago, Henrys cured me of that habit about 25 yrs ago. But not wanting to spite myself, if they had meal, I would buy it.
Again Thanks

You forgot about cross seed .Thirty years ago it was cheap.

True Value JI has plenty too

Ha, cross seed is a vet’s office with a storage place next to it now… and i can’t get a piece of roast beef from the carving bar at Ryan’s anymore either!

S, you remember Sonny’s Sub Shop? He would make a dang soft serve custard cone a foot tall for us kids. It was like 50 cents, best use of lawn money EVER… good luck eating it before it ran down to your elbows.

I remember Sonny’s now,thanks for reminding me.
