Hey Guys,
I’m flying into Belize City on Sunday and will be staying in Caye Caulker for at least the first night. I have never been down there but I hear the bonefish and permit are abundant and not to picky. Does anybody have any experience down there or suggestions on where to go? We dont have a set plan on where exactly where we are going to go the whole time and would love some suggestions from you guys.
Thanks
might as well be dead up here if i cant find that live bottom
I have been fishing down there for the past 6 years. I go in May, so I don’t know anything about fishing this time of the year. I usually fish on the southern end of Ambergris Caye. I have found a few spots where you can walk and wade, sight casting to the bones.
Be very careful on Caye Calker… lots of crime there.

I took one trip with my family and we fished with Wyatt Cabral, who was great. We caught bonefish on the fly and had our shots at Tarpon and Permit. It was so much fun, I wish you the best of luck. Here is a link to Wyatt: http://www.destinationsbelize.com/guide_bio.htm
if you are on ambergris key, you can catch big (for belize) bones, wading on the reef break on an incoming tide, north of el pescador…

thanks guys,
the trip was incredible and there was a ton of fishing and just a little bit of catching. stayed just north of el pescador at mata chica and fished every day on the flats in between there. everyday saw about a hundred bonefish but only managed 2 the whole trip on the fly. only tried shrimp and crab patterns. i thought the redfish around here were spooky until i tried chasing down these fish everyday. missed a couple of permit when i fished out of caye caulker one day but besides that bonefish was really the only thing i saw and i saw a lot. the guys at el pescador were great with advice but i highly recommend staying at mata chica or ak bol resort if you get a chance. we stayed there the latter part of the trip and actually camped in our own tent the first two nights on the beach. weather was 80 degrees and breezy the entire time. it was an amazing experience and will get pics posted soon.
