bent trailer axel fixed!

Last week I noticed that one of my tires was worn on the inside. Hoping it was a bad bearing (these were very old) I went down to trailer place got new bearings races and seals. After getting the trailer in the air, bearings feel good. Went ahead and replaced bearings races and seals. Go back to trailer guy and he says axel is bent going to need a new one(apx $200). My dad said he had a fifth wheel axel fixed at Charleston frame and wheel. So I go and see Chuck at Charleston frame and wheel he says bring it Fri. morning and it will be ready Fri. afternoon. $50.00 out the door and so far so good. I have moved the spare to the problem side and will repost if I see new ware problems.

That’s strange,a buddy of mine says his almost new tires are wearing on the inside. Just put them on during the summer and said both are wearing,

Make sure he is running the right air pressure other than that I would highly suggest taking it to Charleston frame and wheel off cross county road. I took mine by and he didnt hesitate to tell me that he could fix it!

Did you have to get your boat off of the trailer? I was actually about to post a similar question as to where to go to get mine looked at, as I’ve lost one tire on the left side and its actually looking a little squirrelly again as I pull the boat.

Have known those guys for years and done alot of buisness with them. Just good honest people there.

they did the work with the boat on the trailer

Had axle troubles on the right side of my loadmaster tandom. Just the outside tread was wearing off. Contacted loadmaster and they replaced both axles free, I did the work and all that I had to pay was return shipping.

Tow Boat US Trailering Magazine always has an article or two on uneven tire wear. Most of the time it is due to improper tire inflation. Another major cause is improper cambar (sp?) in the axel. If axel is designed for a heavier load then you put on it, the axel may not flex back to the neutral positon when loaded. Good info on the local company, did not know anyone here in Chas had the equipment to ensure the trailer and hardware are “true” Thanks for sharing.
