Fished last half of falling in Beresford and dead low rising in UW with my son and a SSWA friend today.
Beresford - 5 reds, a few trout and a flounder. Trout and flounder caught on pearl 5" gulp in current along weedline with oyster beds. Friend showed me how he cut off about 1/2" off the front of the gulp to help prevent missed strikes and it helped out! Reds caught on mudminnow/jighead combo on down current side of dock pilings. Not nearly as much action as hoped.
Headed to UW for deadlow to scout area and do some fishing. New territory for both of us, so was fun to scout and take notes. Ended up picking a feeder creek mouth with oysters on either point. Started plucking off rat reds and trout immediately. Repeated that scenario as often as possible, along with some more down current dock pilings, and had a successful afternoon. Nearly all UW fish caught on MM/jog combo. Wound up with about 15 more reds, largest being 22", and about 8 trout, largest 16". Strong fight in all fish. 22" chased my boy around the boat like a bonnethead!
Haven’t found a strong school of trout yet. Always a few here and there. Knocked them silly last year Oct & Nov.
Wind steady NNE 15ish most of the day, water 58 degrees.
Glad you all had a good day.
I fished that area yesterday with little success. I hit all my usual spots and did some scouting trying new places. I only caught 3 slot reds and 1 small trout. I had live shrimp, finger mullet and varoius artificials. I never found the trout, even in fast moving water. The wind was pretty strong all day. I was surprised to find several pockets of small live shrimp. I only threw my net 4 times and had several dozen shrimp. They were kind of small. Must be the last of the late crop.
Sounds like you kept moving, which is what helped us out. If it wasn’t happening, we hauled tail to another spot.
I sure hope we have a mild winter. While some folks are getting into the trout, doesn’t seem nearly as easy as before. DNR backed off their recommendations, so I guess they feel comfortable. I’ll keep releasing, though.
