thats the biggest issue I have had for the last 3 years

I’m now at www.teamcharlestonmarine.com

Thanks for the help hairball, hope I can return a favor in the future.

Chris you are correct, good technicians are hard to find. There seems to be plenty of backyard guys, but not many who can diag the new engines.

And that is a real shame as I’m sure there can be good money in that work. I guess anyone around here with any mechanic’s skills is working on all the ragged-out cars on the road as there seems to be an auto/transmission repair center on every corner.

hey clint!! how life treating you bud. havent talked to you in a long time. still got my 197. its an international boat now. cruising the bahamas and goin to the virgin islands soon.

Ever think that some people just shouldnt be on the water, but hey its funny for the rest of us!

Finding a technician with the following skills is extremely difficult:

Mechanical (wreching)ability
Electrical troubleshooting
Can use a computer for diag and referencing trouble trees
Clean
Courteous to the customer
Not a pothead or drunk

Dang ! I think i need to go to a Tech school and learn the trade. You would think people would be beating your door down for a job that is in demand like that ! This area in the summer is insane for people needing boats fixed.

Plenty of folks looking to do that type of work, but a true Technician is hard to find. Someone who will actually diagnose an issue, tell you what part failed and why. There is a good many part swappers out there, but not many that can actually diagnose the problem first.

From a customers point of view, I took my boat to a local shop for a water pump replacement and recieved great service at a fair price. I recommended the shop to 3 people with “unknown” issues. One took the diagnosis of the shop and replaced the starter himself. It did not fix the problem. The other 2 went with the shops diagnosis and let them do the repairs. Both had unreasonable turn around times(more than 2 months), returns to try to get it right, and both still have the same problems. I agree, I believe the diagnosis to be the most important part of the repair.
