Best Bet????

Based on weather, tides and my schedule, looks like I am going to be able to make it down Saturday to get some Christmas Eve fishing in. I am trying to figure out what my best bet is as far as target fish. My son is dying to try for some Sheeps but my knowledge on them is extremely limited. It look like the reds are still biting well so that would probably be our best bet. Any bait still being caught in the creeks? Any thoughts or words of advice?

Thanks

I have contemplated Coal Shoot myself on Saturday, might see ya out there looking for some sheeps

i would recommend the reds, but any time you fish docks you can try for sheeps too. my dad has been catching in- and over-slot redfish under a float with frozen shrimp recently. i’ve heard mudminnows are also working very well.

silversides are all over right now, could probably get a good many with a small mesh cast net (try a 3/8", should work)- look for them at the surface in still water near the grass. mullet tending on the large side lately, but i believe they’d work well when chunked for reds if you get some larger-than-finger-size.

big tides, i would guess the trout action is slow for guys like me who don’t know how to work them in cloudy water.

sheeps are here, last two hours of the ebb tide has been best for me. i haven’t messed with fiddlers since november- oysters work great. chum from the upstream-most end of any set of pilings. if nothing within 5, move.

i’m not able to get on the water this weekend, but hopefully we can get out together next week for oysters, etc. i’ll PM you with days- looks like not tues/weds.

good luck to you and your son!

Thanks all and thanks Brock, look forward to hearing from you.

Good luck DF. The Red bite is still hot right now. Sheeps are still on my bucket list so I wouldn’t dream of giving any advise on catching the Bandits.

Same for me on the sheeps. Something I have never caught before but really want to try. I’ll probably stick to reds since it is something I know a little about.
