Going to restring all my reels for inshore fishing. Could someone give me a recommendation for the best overall brad to go with. Brand, Color and Pounds. In your opinion.
What I have been doing is putting on some backing, then the brad line and finish with a short length of fluorocarbin.
You will get a wide variety of opinions here, but I have used Power Pro (backed w/ mono) on my inshore outfits for several years and have been very happy with it. I use 15-20lb. It will easily last for 2 or 3 seasons. I’ve tried it on my surf rods, and prefer mono because the braided line doesn’t stretch and cuts into my fingers when casting heavy weights on my bigger rods.
I prefer to take mine to the tackle shop and let them do it because that machine they have puts it on straight and tight and the price is reasonable.
For INSHORE 80% of my rods are spooled with 10# braid with the other 20% spooled with 5-50# braid. Flats fishing only requires 10# but dock fishing may require 50#. Depends on your style of fishing. Power Pro is standard but suffix casts better. Experiment to your liking.
10-15lb test braid (2-6lb test diameter) is what I use. I used to use Power Pro but switched to Sunline SX1. It’s smoother, doesn’t “dig” into itself, and gets far less wind knots. Depending on water clarity, I’ve folllwed the lead of some trusted guys on here and go straight braid. It hasn’t negatively impacted my hook up rate at all. That said, on those days when you’ve thrown the kitchen sink at them and nothing seems to be working, I’m quick to tie on a Fluorocarbon leader (typically 10-15lb test Sunline Sniper or Seagar), not that it saves the day but at least I feel like I did everything I could to get bit.
This applies to every inshore rig I throw accept top water. I use straight braid on my top water rigs.
In the future, where every stranger poses a potential threat, knowing the predator mindset is the only safe haven.

Archer,
Is this stuff A LOT more expensive than Power Pro? Even if it is, it’d be worth it, as I’d rather be fishing than cursing and attempting to untangle wind knots.
“I’m not a hundred percent in love with your tone right now…”
SX1 to regular Power Pro, SX1 is about $5 more per spool. Nothing against Power Pro but the Sunline SX1 does what I want it to do better than the Power Pro so it’s worth a couple extra dollars, to me.
