My favorite breakfast dish. Who has the scoop in Charleston? I’m not talking about frozen chicken strips. I’m talking about hand battered chicken breast and kick butt waffles?
Never thought I would say this, but I have yet to find anything that competes with “Yardbird’s” in South Beach…
The Early Bird Cafe on Savanah Hwy has a real good chicken and waffles entree… It was featured on the Cooking Channel show with the blone spiked hair guy that drives a 60 something Camero. I think the show is called dumps, dives and drive-ins or something like that. Anyway, I saw the show and figured I needed to check it out. It was pretty good!!

I used to always eat lunch at Lo Lo’s Chicken & Waffles in Scottsdale, AZ when I was out there for work about every other week a few years ago. I haven’t eaten at any other C & W establishment but this one was quite tasty.
Never thought this topic would get so much attention. I thought I was the only one that loved chick N waffles!!! There is obviously some sort of underground chick N waffle brotherhood!!!
What am I missing? What’s the deal with chicken and waffles? Is this the latest food fad, a Charleston thing, what? Ham and eggs, P-nut butter and jelly, spaghetti and meatballs, etc… I get. Chicken and waffles…??

DFreedom, it’s one of those things you just have to try! I was completely turned off by the thought of it at first and after getting a crazy itch to try it, it has become one of my most favorite breakfast requests!!! It’s not a Charleston thing, but evidently, Charleston has caught on as well…
Is that the old “Alex’s” restaurant? Isn’t it just a step up from Waffle House?
Yes, it is the old Alex’s in West Ashtray. And the Wafle House, as much as I love the Waffle House, is not in the same league as the Early Bird Dinner…
