Ran through the whole list and then some but everyone wanted to work rather than fish so Eric and I made the call at 4:30 to head out anyway. Stopped at the outcrop to pick up some bonitos, cudas, 3 tunas and a 45lb wahoo then ran out deeper to round out the slam. Found a pallet in around 500’ that Smabell seems had already pulled 12 dolphins off of but they left one which we completed our slam with. A couple miles further we found a beautiful weedy rip and the games began. For the next two hours it was a complete firedrill. We ran 8 lines, landed 15 mahi up to 30lb, jumped one off at the boat, wrapped two around the motors, used up our last pack of ballyhoo so we switched to bonito strips which worked just fine and discovered the best way to trigger a bite was to utter the magic words…Hey Eric, can you grab me a beer! We stayed longer than I had planned so the ride back got snotty but I’m pretty sure we were grinning the whole way home! Couldn’t ask for a better start to the season.
