Best fighting 29"

I think my best fighting 29" redfish should get his picture posted somewhere.

Here he is…

Well… there is the top of him. I don’t like to pull them out the water if I don’t have to. He hit a pheasant shrimp fly within rod length of me and he pulled like he didn’t want to have his picture taken. The 7wt was doubled over and the drag was cranked all the way down (relative to the leader).

Just had to get one more during the holiday. :sunglasses:

I fish an 8wt for reds and only rarely see the backing. How does your 7wt compare on a fish like this? I’ve never used a 7wt.

7wt is as light as I want to go. That's based on where I fish and the average fish I have caught over the last many years. My fish average (90 percent) 22 to 28 inches in the grass. For me, the 7wt works for that range quite well. I really can't stop a 30 inch redfish if he wants to run. I can stop him but, the rod does nearly zero work. My wrist does all the work for 30" plus fish. I always bring a 9wt in case I see a 'bull'.

Nice!
