Best gloves for cold weather fishing

I’ve never worn gloves fishing but was looking to get some since I’m tired of having cold and wet hands. If anyone has any expirence, what is the best route to go- rubber, neopreme, etc? Thanks.

I got some new gloves for Christmas and they feel good indoors though haven’t yet used fishing. Simms, merino wool, 1/2 fingers. My plan for really cold weather is to wear fleece ski gloves over the Simms, for running boat, etc. Then wear only Simms for fishing, knot tying and bait handling. It’s all about having as much protection as possible, and still being able to fish. Hand warmers can help too.

I use the weather sealed leather working glove. You can pick oysters with them and get a hook out. I buy them to fit my hand tight, it gives you better feel. They are not water proof if you hold your hand under water but they are if your just handling wet stuff. They also hold warmth well.and don’t retain much water.

Mittens are the best, the kind with the little magnets on flaps that fold back and forth for knot tying and such.

I’m using soft waterproof neoprene gloves. Only problem with them is that I can’t tie on baits or put livebait on hooks without taking them off. The ones I have fit tight enough that I can easily fish artificial baits and play fish amd unhook fish without taking them off. I mostly fish with baitcasting reels any other reels might be tougher to operate.
I’ve tried “divers gloves” and they have a harder rough surface on the palm that gets slick when wet. I can’t fish very well with them.
The best gloves I ever used for fishing were kayak gloves. They “fit like a glove” and lasted for several years. I can’t find any like them anywhere now.

The neoprene gloves worked well on the water yesterday. Fingertips did get a little cold at times. But then again, how many times are we out fishing when the line is freezing in the rod guides and on the spool? The fish bit pretty well. Caught stripers, white perch, largemouth, one bream and one yellow perch. Almost had a lake Murray slam. All we needed was a catfish and a crappie. Don’t have to be crazy to fish when it’s that cold, but it helps!

I use the same black nitrile gloves i use in the garage. they keep your hands dry and add a small layer of insulation. yes they wont keep your hands toasty, but just stick them in your pockets between catches and theyll warm back up quickly, opposed to having cold AND wet hands which can be difficult to warm back up. dont get the cheap ones on the shelves in the parts store. ask the doofus behind the counter for the professional ones that are in the back that get sold to shops, theyre thicker and have textured grip on them.

Fleece lined neoprene sealed gloves. Works great for the boat ride and the sealed ones keep your hands dry when handling wet ropes and gear. Just have to take them off for knot tying and more detailed work. Coupled with pocket warmers makes a cold day tolerable. Once again the weather is never too bad to fish with the proper gear.

Spearfishing gloves work great for that. They don’t cost much and you would forget you’re wearing them if not for the sausage fingers. You can see Omar at one more chance scuba in west Ashley. He has a bunch of that stuff in stock. I think he even had the rubber coated dyneema gloves.

Mittons are hard to beat when driving. They are easer to put on with cold or wet hands. Water proof covering over a fleice liner. I use what my mother did for me as a kid and safty pin them to a string around your neck so you don’t loose them.Have trid all sorts of gloves but never found one I could fish in. I have buddys that use hand warmers, but they dry out my hands and they split!

I’ve love to be able to spend my winters in Costa Rica, but the boss (wife) won’t let me!

Got AFTCO Release gloves for Christmas. Used them several days inshore with temp in the low 40’s and windy. If they get wet you will know it but they dry relatively quickly. Better than nothing and these were about as cold conditions as I would ever be fishing. It is difficult but possible to cast a spinning rod with them. Other than this more extreme cold that I would fish I would recommend them.
