does dnr on fort johnson road publish anything?

Good site, several local stations, this is Ft. Sumter:
http://www.windfinder.com/forecast/fort_sumter_national_monument

this gauge is on the top of a building on fort johnson, but it’s not very accurate on wind direction. http://www.wunderground.com/cgi-bin/findweather/hdfForecast?query=29412

this one’s usually dead on for folly - click on it on the central map then scroll down to the graphic (and you can usually assume a close correlation with other points along the coast like fort sumter), but you can also click on the color “wind forecast” thumbnail on the left side and view a map of charleston with a pretty accurate color gradient forecast that i use every time i shrimp the harbor. http://www.sailflow.com/windandwhere.iws?regionID=154&Isection=Gmap+Obs

so barbawang you use the folly island actual wind and its good for the harbor?

i do if it’s coming from a direction that will affect it the same (fishing the north side of harbor with a south wind)… but it’s typically a little less intense once you’re inshore compared to what’s going on at folly. that’s where the color gradient link on the left comes in handy- obviously things like our summer sea breezes diminish as you get inland, for example.

usually i add that to reefcast’s offshore, NWS, and wunderground/weather.com to see if there’s agreement. sailflow is excellent for pinpointing wind switches that you don’t see with NWS daily forecasts- timing of frontal boundaries, etc.
