Best hook size for copperhead imitation?

Tying up some copperhead look alikes for the weekend. What is the best hook size to go with?

I use 2’s 1’s and 1/0 for redfish flies. I like Gamakatsu hooks.

Cool, thanks. I have been using mustad 34007 1’s, 2’s, and 4’s. Wasnt surw if a 1/0 was to big. Thanks again fellas.

12/0 Mustad stainless welded eye j-hooks wiht extra barbs cut into them and barbed wire for the weed guard… go big or go home :wink:

Nope… I bought all they had :smiley::stuck_out_tongue: I can’t understand why those redfish won’t eat my flies tho… :wink::stuck_out_tongue: maybe I need to drop down to a 10/0… :wink:

I agree with MM and Upstate… I really like the Gamakatsu hooks but when I am tying a crab pattern or something I KNOW I will be throwing in heavier grass I like to use a mustad hook. Still sharp enough to stick a fish but no that razor sharp that grabs every blade of grass. Most of the fiddlers and stuff I see on the flats is about the size of a 1/0 hook, so that is about the biggest I tie for grass fishin.

Well I will def pick up some of those hooks. In the mean time I tied a few on the mustad 34007’s and they turned out ok. Hopefully this week I can see if I can get one on a fish. Tied a few M4’s while I was at it since these seem to be the essential redfish flies. Thanks again for all the input.

That M4 is awesome… I have fished it all over the world and always caught fish on it. My first red OTF of 2011 was on one. Tie them up in smaller sizes and different colors and they slay the freshwater fish too…
