what would yall consider to be the best hook for slow trolling/drifting live herring -i’ve been using a eagle claw circle sea and i have missed a good many strikes lately -not blaming it all on the hook - a few were my fault – should i be using a trailer hook this time of year?-went out monday with my son and got skunked -but we saw the rods bend several times -just no hook-ups

poboy, I use eagle claw wide bend hooks (similar to a khale) and they work well, but I often see the same type thing when in small fish, particularly if you have pretty good size herring. If you are seeing the rod tip bounce around a bit then half hardily go down I’d say they are smaller fish. If when you are seeing a hit the bait is being nailed and the rod tip immediately goes diving full force into the water that’s a different story and maybe you do want to try another hook. In fact, if that is the case, let me know where you are fishing where this is happening and I will meet you there with some good hooks…

striperskiff, i was up on clarks hill - this happened to me saturday and monday-saturday was on top water with flukes -monday was the herring - been wondering if the old timers talking about fish getting (soremouth) due to the moon phase is really true! they really seemed to be hitting light even on top
eagle claw kahle hooks are hard to beat for the money , but the Gamakatsu shiner hooks are alot thinner wired and alot sharper if you want the best !!!
