x whatever on the Penn Battle 3000. I have had one for about 6 months and it is by far my favorite reel. Going to slowly switch over the rest of my rigs to the battles. I had the cheaper version shimano solstace and have had two support arms break on nice reds.
My wife pulled a nice 33" red with her hands, (she was wearing gloves) after the first one broke. I am sure my son dropped them or we did something to cause this. But I will not go back to a graphite, or whatever material that is, reel.
Don’t have a knack for makin motors crank,
But I’m pretty good at drinkin beer
The best way to a fisherman’s heart is through his fly.
I am going to pick up a Penn Battle from Haddrell’s this week for comparison sake at least. You guys talked me into it! My tackle is mostly Shimano and Daiwa because the smaller Penn reels USED to not handle small braid well. If I don’t like it, it seems as if I can get rid of it quickly on here at a reduced price.
I catch most of my trout and reds on a Battle 2000. The drag is very good, but it is at its limits with 30+" reds especially around docks and heavy structure. The Battle 3000 has significantly more drag and it the best all around inshore size. I just got a new Penn spinfisher V 4500 to replace a 4000 size Shimano and the drag is phenomenal. It is a little heavy, but balances well which is fine as it is my heavy float and carolina rig rod.
as a charter captain, saltfisher fishes more trips than any other guide i know. he uses equipment harder than anyone i know because of that.
the shimano symetere are the only ones he has ever gotten more than 1 season out of.
