I wanted to get some advice on the best rig to fish Charleston for the inshore. For my budget, I know there is no silver bullet boat that can draft 6" and still fish the jetties but I want to get as close to that as possible. I’d like to find a boat that can pole onto the tidal flats and still safely fish the jetties without fear of drowning.
Thank you in advance for your comments.
Bentz craft for the draft but maybe a old hewes for the jetties. You wont find anything new with those qualifications. You could split it up and buy a used bayboat and a 14 john boat… depends alot on how many people you carry, length you want, speed, range, etc.

-HT Bugbuster

A used keywest 1720 sportsman is about as good as it gets for an all purpose boat around here. On calm days you can fish the nearshore reef, jetties, all around the harbor and it is a superb inshore boat. For a quality boat on a budget id start there. See what you prefer after doing a few sea trials.

Yes there is
I’ve decided to sell mine and build a new one. It will pole in 5" and take you to the Bahamas without fear of drowning. And be well within your budget. Let me know if you want more details

Dang Larry, wish I was in the market, having seen it in person I can say that is a sweet ride. If you don’t mind me asking, how much?

Larry is that the boat in the picture? I’m not currently in the market but I am very interested in the specs

Yes, the boat in the picture, but with a new custom T-top and a custom swim platform to replace that cheezy ladder. It a Jacques Mertens designed OD18. I built it in 2007 and didn’t cut any corners. Silvertip epoxy resin, and Lloyds certified ship building mahogany. Full foam floatation, graphite bottom. Has a 2006 Yamaha 70 2 stroke, Bob’s jack plate, lots of extras and spares. Spare prop, water pumps, filters, plugs… Humminbird color GPS plotter, Navionics charts, VHF with DSC, compass, 15 rod holders, Wang stake out bracket and 2 stake out pins. Good trailer with spare tire, spare hubs and bearings. Anchor and life jackets included. Other stuff I can’t remember. Ready to fish.
The only problem is the interior paint is cracking and looking shabby. It needs to be repainted on the inside. Purely cosmetic. Advice to all, System 3 topcoats are not a very good paint. Live and learn. The outside paint still looks like a new car. It’s Sterling aircraft paint, about $500 a gallon.

Because the interior needs repainting, I’m thinking something around $13K. If I fix that too, then probably $16K. Perfectly useable as it is though.

You gonna build an Abaco 23?
ZX
I’m thinking real hard about building the new FS19 design that Jacques is working on. The Abaco 23 is more boat than I need and too large for the creeks I like to fish. Great design though and I like it a lot, but I spend a lot more time inshore now than offshore.
This one will do about anything I usually do, just got the itch to build another one.
