What is the best lake map card for Lake Murray? I run a Humminbird and the installed map is OK but not very detailed. Looking for accurate depths and contours. Any first hand knowledge appreciated.
Navionics is pretty close to perfect when it comes to accuracy on Murray, at least in my opinion it is. Well except for the big volcanoe no one can find in the mouth of jakes…haha…I use their phone app and like I said its accurate and has 1’ contours

MM: Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■ on the phone app. I imagine it is similar to the fishfinder card but you never know. Anyone have a Navionics card in their Humminbird? If so, which one? They have a few…
DTP3: I have the Humminbird 1198 and 798.
I really hope Lakemaster brings their mapping team and gives us a dedicated Contour Elite map of Murray someday. I can’t wait to get the full functionality of my iPilot link.
I have Humminbird 597. I use the Navionics maps and its worked well for me. My only issue with Navionics is the way they divide the coverage maps. NC and SC are in the “East” card but lakes in GA and AL are on a different card. It’s obvious they do it to make folks buy more than one card. Very underhanded IMHO.

crabjack- I agree splitting the South that way is kinda dirty. Luckily for me I only care about Murray. (Or unlucky for me since Lakemaster doesn’t cover it yet. See this post: http://old.charlestonfishing.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=133938)
If you get a chance, would you take a look at specifically which card you have? The Navionics website sucks.
It looks like the Platinum version might have the contour depth numbers directly on the map that I’m looking for, but it’s not exactly clear if they do or don’t.
scgmc - I looked on my card. It just says “Hotmaps East” I seem to recall it was the Premium version. I bought it a few years ago and it was on “close out” then so it’s probably the '07 or '08 version. However it does have the HD version of Murray with the 1 ft contours.

crabjack - Thanks for checking. That’s exactly what I wanted to know. Appreciate it.
I love the navionics chip. here is a screenshot of the landing at the lake. best way to know if you want it or not. use navionic PC app for screenshot not hummingbird.

Thanks for the ■■■■■■■■, especially the screen shot. I tried my new Navionics Premium card over the weekend and it is certainly better than the Contour XD loaded into the 'Bird.
I was using my 5" 798 so sometimes the depth numbers were hidden. Hopefully on my 1198 they will be more visible. Overall I would say it’s worth buying but has room for improvement.
Whether it is worth the money spent is debatable.
Digging up an old thread, as it looks like Humminbird has finally released their Mid Atlantic Lakemaster card. Looks like Lake Murray has the full Lakemaster survey. Anyone tried this out yet, and report how it compares to navionics?

I have ordered the new Humminbird Lake Master along with Autochart Live and Smart Strike. This new technology is really fascinating to me. Create your own personal charts where nobody ventures to chart. I fish a lot of shallow water in the winter time where my Navionics provides little to no data. I can’t wait to make my own charts and use Smart Strike data when I find positive fishing trends. Will provide update when I get up and running.

Richy, can you post or PM me where you found the new Lakemaster HD card? Everywhere I found showed “Out of Stock”. I suspect never “In Stock”. Too new.
I’m interested in the MidAtlantic States Lakemaster +PLUS (Humminbird 600043-1) version. I’m really looking forward to the full functionality of my Ipilot Link!

Answering my own question here, but my girlfriend was able to purchase the new card from Humminbird directly, and gave it to me as a present. She said there was only one left and had to call to buy it- it was not available on the website.
I’ll let you know how it compares to my Navionics Premium card as soon as I can get back on the water and check it out.
Greets y’all… I have the navionics and like it but the new lakemaster will work wonders with my humminbird and ipilot/link… so I’ve been told right? Anywho, I ordered the Lakemaster card and it’s been backordered… maybe they have issues they have to resolve? No reason why they should be out of stock. And, the ipilot/Humminbird combo was tough to get for awhile too while they worked out some bugs. I also hate the way the break SC out of the southeast group.
1/29/15 Received Lakemaster SD card today. Interesting notes:
(1) You cannot use it in a computer/PC, it’s for the Humminbird ONLY
(2) You cannot save waypoints to it, it will damage the card format
DillyDally,
The waypoints are not saved on any mapping card that I am aware of. All waypoints should be saved to the units hard drive. If you want to export them to another unit or into Humminbird PC just use a blank SD card.
