hey guys, we live in florence and are wanting to come up and striper fish for a couple of days. Was wondering where the best place to launch that is close to maybe some cabin rentaals or something. Any ideas would be helpful, I know where the dam landing is and dreher island, thats about it.
Is there any action near Dreher Island this time of year?
I have been fishing the lower lake, so not really sure what’s going on up that way now. IMO, unless you are really wanting to be on the water, I would suggest just getting a hotel room in the Irmo or Lexington area. The hotels are reasonably priced and that would put you very close to the dam landing at the dam. There are 2 boats selling herring right there at the ramp in the morning. Also, close by, are 2 bait shops that are open all day should you decide to want to fish in the eve/night. Bait is harder to come by up the lake.
I don’t know for sure, but I would also think it may be hard to find a cabin that would rent out for just a couple of days this time of year.

Rick Kellemeyer has cottages for rent on Dreher Island. Not sure of their availability but you can check. He is a good guy and very good fisherman. My buddy stays there when he comes down and Rick always puts him on fish.

There is a really nice Hyatt Place right on Lake Murray Blvd beside a Cracker Barrel, and also and extended stay place there as well depending on how long you will be down. For $100 a night you can get a nice hotel room, and park your boat in the parking lot. It is only 5 minutes up Lake Murray Blvd to the landing, bait shops, and lower lake fishing. I don’t think I would worry about finding a spot on the lake as getting bait would be more of a hassle than having the boat launched each day. Unless you have a huge bait tank that can keep them alive for 72 hours.
