Best Marine Battery??

What are everyone’s thoughts and opinions on a new battery? My starting battery is a 2013 model and hasn’t been a minutes trouble, but I’m gonna replace it shortly just to be safe. An ounce of prevention you know. So I’m was wondering what you guys use and why.

Deka

As much as I hate to admit it, I have always had good experiences with Wally World marine batteries. I ran one for 6+ years.

I have always sworn by Interstate batteries, regardless of the application. In every vehicle I have ever owned, they have died pretty much exactly at the 5 year mark. I appreciate that consistency. The used boat I purchased last summer had two Interstate SRM-24s on it. Shortly after getting the boat, both batteries died. Looked at the dates — guess what? Both were 5 years and 1 month old. Immediately replaced them with another set of SRM-24s.

I have found that more important than brand is taking care of your batteries. Periods of inactivity can be extremely harmful to lead acid batteries. Your batteries should be completely charged before storing. My guess is that winter time is what kills most batteries. Run your boat every few weeks or put your batteries on a charger every few weeks when not in use.

Excellent service out of my Odyssey Extreme Series. I agree completely with fishwater9.

You know, I also agree with fishwater9. I keep my onboard chargers plugged in year round, which I’m sure is one of the reasons, or the biggest reason I haven’t head any trouble so far. Nonetheless, it’s 5 years old and in my experience with automotive batteries, it’s time to think about a replacement. Not to keen on being several miles from the landing and stuck trying to troll back. In my luck I’d have to troll against the tide and the wind. LOL! I know I could always swap out a trolling motor battery with the starting battery, but who wants to do that? Rather spend my time fishing!!

Deka can be found at Lowes (check manufacture date as they tend to collect dust there)

Dekas Rebranded as Duracells are at Sams Club and Batteries Plus.

I am running 3 trolling motor and 1 starter. All Deka’s. Made in USA.

Add to that, West Marine batteries are manufactured by Deka

redfish has the right idea , I keep a maintainer charger connected to the 4 batts on my ride , 1 cranking , 1 accesories , 1 lights , and 1 trolling 24/7/365 and have never had an issue since doing this…I have to trailer my ride 4-5 hrs to get to salt and batts need to last 2-3 days without a recharge …

Thanks for all the input guys. I’m surprised no one has chimed in on optima blue tops. Are they simply too overpriced for what you’re getting?
