Lucas marine grease. I found the best deal on Amazon.
What ever you use, use it often. Its easer to grease often than to be broken down on the side of the highway! I always carry an extra hub with bearing and cap already greased just in case.

That’s a pro tip right there, might be a little overkill but I have two extra hubs w me all the time…One for me and one for some poor slob on a Sunday afternoon with a sunburnt wife and three screaming youngins.
The back of my truck looks like Gerald’s tire truck when I’m pulling a boat.
Oh ya, under the dinette in my Bertram is an extra starter one right hand and i left hand, a R&L prop an extra shaft Both typs of water pumps distriberter cap and enough tool and extra parts to sink a jonboat, Make you feel better at 80 or more miles out! As well as 36 gal. of extra fuel! Not to mention the ditch bag and rubber boat
crackerlarry, please jump in here and clarify for me…
is there really a difference? or is ‘marine’ grease just a name to separate more of my $ from me?
peapod, A “real” marine grease will have an aluminum or calcium based thickener…and be much more water resistant than a lithium complex grease…regardless of being labeled as “Marine” or not. I’ve seen a lot through the years swear by “white” lithium grease, which is probably the worst you can use.
Find someone using that owns a long reach excavator that is constantly submerged in water and I would bet 3 dollars that they are using a grease with Calcium Sulfonate soaps instead of lithium based grease in their bucket pins and greasing them often.
Pretty much anything labeled as “marine” grade is designed to help with “wash” out from water. Boat poor hit it on the head, what ever you use, use it often.
All that said, CAT offered a marine grease, was pale green in color awsome stuff. Hard as heck to wash/wipe off your hands. They discontinued it and I believe This is what took it’s place: 452-6001 Extreme Application Grease 2
Severe Duty Calcium Sulfonate Grease

</font id=“quote”></blockquote id=“quote”>I think there is a difference, and while it’s a little pricier it’s certainly worth it to me. If it helps even once to keep me from being broke down on the side of I95 in the middle of the night with my wife!
I also carry a spare hub with bearings, pre-packed and greased, 2 of them on a long trip, a lug wrench that fits the trailer, a jack that fits the trailer, some boards and blocks, and every tool necessary to fix what happens. Along with a Sea Tow roadside trailer assistance plan.
You don’t want to be broke down very long on a hot Florida highway with my wife:face_with_head_bandage:
