Best place to fish on land

Surf fishing, pier fishing; where’s a good spot if you wanna fish from land around this time. Folly, IOP, Sullivan’s?

Can’t beat the view and atmosphere of the Folly Pier. It’ll cost you to fish there though.

Look into the old Pitt Street Bridge and Bowens Island. The Old Pitt Street Bridge is pretty popular and I’ve heard good things about it. Also , I’ve heard about people paying a small fee and fishing at Bowens Island. I would call and make sure they will let you do that still do that before dragging down there. Good Luck!

I have had good luck at the Pitt street old bridge. If you hit the tides right, some monster red fish come through close to the grass to the right once you first enter the walkway. Last we had a few 38 inchers from there last year.

Keep fishin

Pitt Street bridge has a good run of bait in the summer with reds and ladyfish. I’ve seen a few sheeps and happened to look in a rookies bucket that caught a 6" grouper that I got to throw back. Current can be strong and the elevation that you fish from can be a challenge to keep the fish off structure. I started there last year and went about a dozen times. Good sites to see and nice folks, mind the hungry dogs. One day I saw what I could only guess was a massive school of Spanish a few hundred yards off the causeway. They were really tearing it up but I had to go soon after spotting them and never made an attempt on them. I felt like low to mid tide was the most active.

One of my favorite spots is here https://goo.gl/maps/Z7ffK. Station 30 Sullivan. A few years back there was a nice lagoon that formed along the south side of this jetty that created a fantastic bait trap. It had a gradual drop that lead to the channel about 100 yards out. I caught limited reds, trout, and flounder here. But I loaded up on whiting, small sharks, and rays. The gullies in front of the house in the link above and here https://goo.gl/maps/Z5rzj at station 28.5 will be loaded with bait for much of the summer. The S30 gully is pretty high so it takes very high tides for the water to reach it I believe. I haven’t checked the beach this year to see if or how far the sands have shifted but the changes can be DRASTIC from year to year. The north and south sides of the island are best as there are fewer people in these high current regions. Gullies will fill with finger mullet, bull mullet, pin fish, croaker, and the occasional 3" jack. S28.5 appeared to have some very large 30" fish in it one day but I was never able to find out what they were as it was 150’x 600’and 6’ deep. I caught a spanish 6’ off the bank at S30 one year when I saw a fish being so aggressive he forced me to throw a line at him.
I’ve heard south Sullivans by the fort can get some good flounder at times but never really tried it much as I pre
