I am new to fly fishing in saltwater but I do have several
different weight rods and reels. What is the best setup for
fishing inshore for redfish?
Most people prefer an 8wt or 9wt for inshore redfishing in the summer. In the winter there are plenty that fish with a 7wt. Forward floating line. 9ft tapered leader. Take a trip to Charleston Angler and talk to the guys in there. They are a great place to start for fly fishing around Charleston.
In the grass, use a crab, shrimp pattern. If you get it in front of them, you’ll likely get a strike. The copperhead crab is tough to beat in the grass. On the shallows I prefer to use a mudminnow pattern.
