Best Striper Fishing

Want to knock off striper fishing on my bucket list and wondering when the best time of year to do this. Looking at Lake Moultrie/Marion. Thanks.

Summertime even the weekend warrior, non fishing fisherman can catch them. I’d say best months to catch Striper, or easiest is June-September. You can catch them in all methods. I personally catch them using Umbrellas before water gets too hot and once they stack deep you can jig big spoons, live bait on downrods and nighttime fishing is great using Downriggers with big lures as well.

Illegal to fish for striped bass in santee during the summer, so don’t book a trip then. I think March and April for size and some numbers and November for numbers.

My OP was mostly oriented to Murray.

I would go to Clarks Hill and fish with Tony Shepard of Little River Guide Service. Only months I would avoid would be February, early March, late July and October. Not that you can’t catch fish those months but February and early Mearch are very unstable weather one day is great and the next can be awful. Although the last couple weeks of March are fantastic if there is warmer weather. July and October are transition months and can be tougher there.

Murray is a great lake as well but I don’t know any captains to recomend but I’m sure this board can. Santee used to be a great striper lake but they have had some population crashes and I’m unsure of the quality of the fishery these days. It may be on the upswing but it is now known more for catfish than stripers.

But OP asked about striper fishing on Lake Moultrie/Marion.

“…be a man and PM me.”
