Best tide for bull reds off of Sullivan’s island/any surf

I want to go surf fishing for bull reds and am going to try Sullivan’s island, I’m just not sure if it’s worth my time to go on a falling high tide as I’ve heard an incoming low is good to get the bait in the right spot and wait it out. I was also going to use either cut or live finger mullet as bait.

The best time to go is whenever you can…I’ve caught bulls at all tide stages. If you don’t know the beach’s contour (even if you do, it changes all the time), and had the time, I’d recommend go to the beach at low tide to identify sloughs/sandbars and pottholes, then target those areas when the tide comes in. Fight the urge to wade out to your shoulders to make your cast, likely you’ve already walked over the best spots. If you see mullet running (sept/october) at a certain distance from the beach, I’d be sure to have at least one bait in their general path as the predatory fish are likely close by. Best of luck, I look forward to reading your reports!

By all means, go fishing when you can.

But, the height of the Bull Red run, along Sullivan’s, and IOP, is during October.
