Just curious what y’all think is the best time of year of catch Sheepshead at the Jetties?
A lot of folks say they move off to the nearshore reefs in the winter.
But I’ve done fairly well in November and December on the rocks.
But March and April my favorite times.
Do you fish out there for them as you would on dock pilings? fiddler on a sheephead jig?
How long do you try 1 spot before you move? Or do you hand out at your go to spot for a while?
I’m pretty much a run and gun type fisherman.
I usually fish a spot 10 or 15 minutes. Then I’ll drift down about a boat length or 2. I work something like a 75’ stretch of rocks. Sometimes if I’m feeling it I’ll make a second run at it… or just move on to another area.
To me it seems like they’re more in areas than spots. Unlike trout and redfish I’ve got spots that 10’ or 15’ one way or the other you won’t catch anything.
I’m definitely not a sheepshead guru maybe somebody else will chime in on this.
The only difference between the way I fish pilings and the jetties is I use a little more weight at the piling.
At the rocks I kind of want it bouncing down the the rocks. At the balance I try to keep it up close.
