The bottom of my boat is scuffed up from a lot of shallow water fishing and poling. Some are deep enough that I can see glass which I know isn’t good. I’m planning on cleaning with acetone, then marine tex, then sanding down. Appearance isn’t important b/c of location.
Marine tex is amazingly self-smoothing. To get a glassy like smooth finish let it sit up just a bit…just a little more tacky than when it was applied…only a few minutes…then put on a latex glove and keep dipping your whole hand in water then lightly smoothing.
Takes a little practice to get it exact, but you can get a good finish for a non-seen area and never have to sand.
Don’t just get your hand damp, get it WET and practice a little…you’ll quickly get the feel for the correct pressure to apply.
Good info for sure, specially bout smoothing it out with a wet gloved hand or can take a piece of wax paper or plastic and squegee it down over the fresh marine tex untill smooth and leave till dry then it will peel off leaving a smooth glossy surface, works with gel coat too for small areas. The plastic or wax paper seals off the air and makes it dry with a smooth glossy surface espicially with gel coat.
