Beware, Boat Plug Stolen

Picked the boat up from the storage lot in Crowfield this am.
Load up boat and make it to Bushy landing by 9:00
My wife and son take the boat off the trailer and I try to find a parking spot. When I get to the dock I see the bilge pumping out water, real hard.I run to get the trailer, load up and pull it out and find the boat plug gone. I never take the plug out I do check it to make sure it is still tight but I never leave it out.
We had a spare and the day was not lost, we actually had a great day at the Jetties.

When I took the boat back tonight I drove around the lot and of the 500 or so boats in the lot, I could count on one hand the # of plugs that were in the boats. I hope no one else is surprised.

I will be stopping at the office in the morning to if there were any others that were surprised.

Thanks for the heads up! I too park my boat there. They have been having a lot of theft lately. I’m glad they have those high dollar cameras now.:wink: Nothing, nowhere is safe anymore…

God is GOOD!! ALL the time!!</font id=“blue”>

I have not checked mine this week, but I never leave my plug in the boat, although my deck is sealed pretty good, rain & condensation can can fill the boat bilge

They have a new girl in charge of the lot now .Bobby Jo and she said she is going to try and make it a better place.I am backed up to the fence by all the pine trees and want to move out in the middle.

Not trying to be a smartass, but why would you leave your boat plug in? 6 inches of rain the other week will fill a bilge up in a hurry and drain a batttery. Me personally I take the drain plug out when the boat gets strapped to the trailer and the motor support is put in place. The plug gets put back in whent eh straps come off and the motor support is removed prior to backing the boat in the water.

Sorry for your luck on someone stealing your plug though.

No one knows if YOU are THE village IDIOT or not until YOU open your mouth and speak!!!

My cover is tight never had any water in from the rain. I worry less about the rain than I do about forgetting the plug.

I always take mine out as well. That is the only thing my wife wants to see when we are putting in. She watches me put the plug in every time… guess it gives her a sense of security.

why would anyone steal a drain plug? Is their value in them???

Not much in a boat yard but worth a bunch when you are backing down at the boat ramp…I’m just sayin…

■■■■ Smily, there goes my ramp side drain plug business.

Now I have a spot on the road coming in,under the light and easy to get in.Got the ATV trailer up against the fence in front so I am in good shape. They rented the 30 ft spot I moved out of before I even got the boat moved.

The spot I have in our storage lot is so muddy I have 14 5 gallon buckets of stone that I am taking home this afternoon so that when I move the boat tomorrow I can level up the parking spot. At least I will have the most level spot and wont have to worry about parking in 4 inches of mud. I feel sorry for the rest of the people that are on the downhill side of the lot.

Because my boat is self bailing and water does not get in my bilge from rain, condensation or anything of the like. If I take it out I have to remember to put it back in, althought the plug is the first thing I think of every time I back the boat in the water! Guaranteed!

I also keep my boat covered, which helps. But even when not covered I don’t take the plug out. The only time it comes out is as soon as the boat is pulled from the water. I pull it to let the 2 oz. of water out then put it right back in nice and snug.
