BI-OP-SEA 8/1-8/10, Manteo, NC

pathologyman and the crew have been killing it recently. I didn’t get to fish with them last weekend because of rockville, but I was able to fish with them this weekend and in the big tournament this upcoming week. There are a lot of the big fishing names up in Pirate’s Cove this week.

Report:

8/1 - 5 sails

8/2 - 4 white marlin, 1 sail – Capt Jesse’s son (6 years old) landed 2 of the whites.

8/8 - Bunch of dolphin including one 60lb fish

8/9 - Not a lot of action. Didn’t see a billfish all day. Caught a couple of dolphin, some bait sized bluefin tuna and lost a nice 60+ pound tuna right at the back of the boat. Believe it or not, they put up a fight on 30lb gear with 6lbs of drag.

8/10 - The Alice Kelly ladies tournament. Only the ladies are allowed to reel them in. Within the first hour of the day, the flat line starts to buzz, fish not hooked, then a long rigger get’s popped out of the clip and a dolphin is on. Then a dorsal and tail fin (from a billfish) pop up in the spread and he is frantially checking all of the baits. A fish was hooked on the shotgun, but we have no idea what it is or if it was even the fish we saw in the spread. It stays deep the entire fight and we just know it is another big tuna. After about 30 minutes with the Doc’s 9 year old daughter hanging onto the other end, the fish starts to come up and we are backing down hard trying to gain some line. There he comes, a 100+ lb blue marlin up from the shadows, which ends up winning junior angler for her. Another hour goes by and then Chris the mate, yells WOAH!!! and jumps about 3 feet off the cockpit floor. It’s a white coming in on the dredge very hot with fins lit up. They get it hooked up and the rod goes to Jesse’s wife. She pounces on the fish and we release our second fish of the day, white marlin. We are feeling pretty happy at this point, but know that it will take a sailfish for the… I don’t want to even say it, as it might jinx this story. Anyway, the Doc, realizing he needs to do something to

Oh well maybe next time, It still sounds better than work though.

Congrats to the ladies on the boat! Thats awesome!

Nice work. I have been trying to get in touch with you about birds.
