I was lucky enough to get invited to fish up at Pirate’s Cove again this year on the BI-OP-SEA (www.fishbiopsea.com), which, for those of you who don’t know is pathologyman’s most recent successor of the AUT-TOP-SEA legacy. Fishing was hot and heavy in the morning during the Alice Kelly (Ladies shootout). About 20 minutes into the morning, we had a triple of whites come through. Pathologyman and Chris did their magic and hooked up with all three of them, but 2 of them managed to escape a bit earlier than we had liked. The third one was captured though. We ended up going 4 for 6 in the morning and saw a couple more fish that weren’t as hungry. The sea conditions were just right to see fish tailing downsea. It’s pretty ■■■■ exciting when you can see a fish in the front of a swell clear enough to see his tail kicking and his dorsal and pectoral fins charge up just before he comes to swallow the bait. Seeing that is sure to get you addicted.
We ended up in 5th place out of 70+ boats. The first place boat got 6 of the white devil, so we had a real good shot if we could have kept our first triple glued on there. Oh well, we are just saving a little special mojo for the big tournament starting tomorrow.
Also, congrats to Jay Weaver and crew on the Daymaker who managed to fish their way to 3rd place with 5 whites roped in by the ladies. I heard that there was a line of ladies stretched all the way down the dock that wanted to fish on that boat and they had to turn a lot of them down.
Anyway for those looking to learn a little more about catching some billfish or looking for a change from Charleston for a weekend, give the BI-OP-SEA boys a call. Fishing is real good right now and I think that they will be back to charters in a couple of weeks.
