What a tight battle!!! We got out to a great start winning the daily on day one with 2 sails and 2 whites. Day two was pretty slow fishing. We had 2 legit shots at fish, but didn’t capitalize. Luckily it was a pretty slow day for the whole fleet and we went into day three still barely hanging on to the top spot. We had a legitimate chance to put this one in the books and had at least 3 shots early at fish that we missed. Finally we landed a white, but unfortunately, the Ohana had landed one before us and was beating us on time. That dropped us into the #2 spot and then it comes over the radio – blue marlin landed, 139 inches with 80 inch girth. We all looked at each other saying some expressive things and realized it was a grander. In this tournament, kill pounds count towards release points, so their 1228.5 lb fish easily put them up to #1 and us down to #3. The fish was laying on the dock when we got back. Amazing!!! Congratulations to the Mimi for their new state record and to Ohana for the number 2 spot. We put up a good fight, but at least pathologyman and crew can say that they have placed in the top 3, three times in a row!!! 3rd place in the boat builders tournament, 3rd place in the Alice Kelly tournament, and now 3rd place in the big tournament!!! No matter how you cut it, that’s some serious fishing.
Nice work Skinnee & crew.

Nice catch! Even though you were targeting bills did you catch any dolphin, wahoos, tuna, etc? How is their bite?
If you are not the lead dog, the view is all the same.

quote:S4G, there were a few nice bigeye tunas caught in the 140# range and a few big dolphin in the 40-50# range if I recall. Overall though meatfishing was fairly slow. Billfish however cooperated pretty well for the most part.
