i learned a few days ago that my long time friend/brother passed on after a apparently short bout with cancer.those of you that fish bushy park would probably know him.many nights his old ford van with beat up trailer would be there when every one else was long gone.he grew up with me and went on many fishing trips with my father.we learned striper fishing together from the old man.in the cooper river,in recent years he caught many stripers over 20 lbs,as well as the combahee and new rivers.(and who knows where else)he was a great guy who amazingly was never married and never had any kids.he took what he learned from my father and ran with it.i dont know anyone who knew “riverenes” like ben did.he probably forgot more than i know.im gonna miss him.this pretty much concludes my striper fishing days i think.i wont get those phone calls anymore that used to pump me up for it every winter.no more 4am in the morning alex restaurant pre fishing breakfast yap sessions.with the father gone he became my fishin partner…though he already was.it used to be the 3 of us.since the age of 7 or 8.my sons and daughter have no interest in it.they like catching seatrout…probably because they are easy to catch and flounder/spottails.this is a sad day and the end of some great times i will never forget.
Willy,
Sorry for your loss. Sounds like a good guy. If you ever wanted to fish murray, I would take you out. My time is somewhat limited because I have newborn twins, but I can plan ahead and offer my wife a shopping trip for a fishing trip.
steelytom congradulations on the twins.2 more future fishermen/ladiesstart them early.
It is a boy and a girl, and they will both be fishing before talking. They have been in the hospitol since birth (April 27th). They won’t let me bring them there fishing poles. But they are both doing good and should be home soon. They were 2 lbs. 2 oz & 2 lbs. 9 oz. when born. One of there neigbors came in at 1# 6 oz. and is doing good. It is amazing what they can do now.
Sharky,
I was using herring, that is about all I ever use. I would like to learn how to catch some gizzard shad. But my fishing time is limited, so I would rather fish than catch bait. Have you been doing good?
steelytom i haven’t been on the lake in 2 months.i don’t usually fish in the summer months.i start to saltwater fish when it gets hot.i was referring to the 2 little ones when i asked what kin of bait you were using to catch them.
Oh, I guess I a little slow. Got them on some long tailed tadpoles. Do you fish from boat or shore saltwater. I want to get into it a little more. But I can barely find time to get to the lake now. I would love to catch some reds, or even some sharks.
tom i fish from the shore.i do wel enought o satisfy me.at night i fish the surf for sharks, whiting, pompano.thereis no need trying to fish the surf during the day to many people.(LONG TAILED TADPOLES)yeap that’ll do it everytime.take care of the little ones.
hey steelytom; that is a good looking boy. must have a pretty mama cause i know his daddy. also; do not listen to sharky. he has yet to take me out to kill some crappie. as a matter of fact he does not even call.,send cards or flowers anymore. good talking to you the other day. my son and i had a good time at the boys weekend. we caught plenty of 3-8lb cats and a good many bream from that little three acre or so pond. i am getting my boat back tommorrow. i had a couple of small 1x2 or so gelcoat repairs done and one ■■■■ large long oyster rip. looks pretty good. he cahrged me $300 and also replaced my rub rail. i had it done at hartley’s boat repair in batesburg. lets give the stripers a try maybe in the next week and maybe at night.
