Third trip of the year, hoping the bigger dolphin had showed. Main sonar and only temperature sensor not working. Replacement part scheduled to arrive Wednesday. It did not. Plan was to run out to the temp break on satellite in 600ft and troll out, since it seemed most of the success from last weekend was out deeper and hope to find s weed line. Ran into big weed patches in 150ft that I probably would have gone by if not for some last minute intel from our friends on Dealers Choice who did well shallow the day before. Got two slingers in the weeds and started trolling out. Started getting nice dolphin around 180 ft and it remained steady there with singles and double gaffers until the afternoon. I told my 75 yo dad that he should go out on deck and catch one since our anglers had all gotten plenty of action. Soon as he steps on deck line goes off and he starts to work on the dolphin, only it was a blue marlin! Thing went crazy behind the boat, which I got on GoPro, and then settled in. Got him safely released after 10 minutes and some photos. Ended up with 21 dolphin, including several 25-30#. Almost all fish caught in a two mile area around 180ft. Great day made even better by getting to fish with my father, my son, my best friend of 30 years and his daughter making her offshore debut. Having trouble getting other images to load.
