Took my 6 year old with me to folly creek and only took some fresh shrimp so I could hopefully get my son on a few fish. He was so excited that he caught 8 crocker. He kept saying “Daddy, I caught 8 and you didn’t catch any, hahaha” Perfect day in the kayak. Fished the top of the out going tide. On a negative note, I made a cheap stick it anchor out of a sturdy stake from Lowe’s for $7 and it bent when a boats wake hit us. Oh well. Now I have two 4 foot anchors.

Very nice!
Isaac and I got into a mess of silver perch recently over at Shem Creek. We didn’t have enough time to mess with putting the jon in the water, so we just spent a couple hours on the boardwalk. We caught about 30 of them, Isaac had a blast.
Just know that those croakers make a really nice fish stock, if you like Thai food :). Gut them, throw them head and all into the crock pot with various veggies, and simmer overnight

That’s what it’s all about. Good job dad! I cut up one of those sturdy stakes for another purpose and found it’s very thin walled aluminum tubing inside. There are better options for DIY cajun anchors but I found it worth it to buy a Park-N-Pole especially since it does double duty on my flats skiff.
