Really nice. You guys have the boat to make that happen in a weekend. I long for the days when they return here. I still remember catching YFT’S like we do dolphin now, although big eyes never have been here in volumes. Hell…the stream has been so effed up this year finding cories has been hard enough.
I dont think the Bigeyes have been here at all.

Seemed to be mixed in with the yellowfin. Wish we did have them a bit closer thats for sure. The temp break up there is insane. I think we saw right around 13 degrees between the cold and hot side.
Set the trap boys, we going to pass through them again!!

Actually I believe I read here that Sells caught a Bigeye here some years ago. That gulf stream/Labrador current is what makes Oregon Inlet so good.
They’ve been caught off Savannah as well. Go back and compare some of the Gulf Stream shots from different years in April and May versus recently. There is a difference.

Like to see a picture of one off our coast not leaving here and fishing off Morehead City like Charles Stone did to get the first Bluefin state record.
In the 60’s and 70’s my grandfather, dad and uncle’s caught a few off Edisto and I remember one 150+ lb big eye that they caught with me on the boat when I was a kid in the 80’s. They didn’t know any better and just thought they were big yellowfin.
Some guys caught 150lb bigeye off charleston in 2008. I was coming back in shem creek and it was being hoisted on the Aggressor to weigh it. Was guys on a 25ft center console
Wonder why no one ever got a state record.Heck I caught several yellowfins in the 130# range in the late 1980s greensticking hell maybe they were Bigeyes.

There is a series of fish that aren’t available for records. Big eye, golden tile, I know those for sure, I’m sure there is more. May need to reach out to our boy Yella bird and see what can be added by the SC legislation.

What a report! This sounds better than Venice.

AWESOME!
that’s a ton of riding for a few fish
I’m on it. Anyone want to add anything else while I’m at it? Big Eye, Golden Tile, African Pompano?? Don’t have the book in front of me, but I assume there’s quite a few things that aren’t listed.

I could be wrong but I think Courtland has the state record for African pompano already

Go ahead and throw Blueline Tile and Black Belly Rosefish in there as well.
