I am watching big fish Texas and just heard the captains who catch thousands of pounds of red snapper a day complain about a couple of recreational fishermen catching a few fish. They were going as far as taking video of the recreational guys “stealing” “their” fish. What a bunch of jerks. That’s what catch shares gets you. A few pigs whining about the recreational fishermen. And I guess that’s what the safmc supports.

I watched that show (half of it) once. Like so many other “reality” shows, it is pure crap. Yeah, 3 men catch 15,000 lbs of fish on lines. Half the fish they kept looked undersized. Not sure how a fishery can be sustained fishing like that and they whine about recreational fisherman. No thanks.

I had to turn it off when they went “undercover” and blamed recreation boats for the problems. Unfortunately, that show is giving him a platform to spread misinformation or lies to the masses.
I also noticed at the beginning of the show when he was unloading “grouper” they sure didn’t look like the grouper I’m used to seeing.
I was in Galveston TX this week and picked up a local mag that had an article about Katie Fish Market, the show and the guy who started it. He’s supposedly a staunch supporter of sustainable fishing and marine conservation which I find sort of hard to understand when HIS boats are out there everyday pulling, literally, thousands of pounds of fish out of the water.

I had been watching the shows and enjoyed watching them catch snapper and grouper. I have to say after last night I wont watch anymore. They were *****ing about recreational fishermen catching snapper out of season when they were catching 15000lb of snapper. They also mentioned that their catch shares increased from 30k lb to 40k lb because of sustainable fishing. I don’t think it is fair for commercial fishing to be open and recreational fishing to be closed. I had to look this up but the red snapper season is from June 1 until closure is announced with a 2 per person limit. They also have a 16" min length. I wont be watching this crap anymore.

I have a hard time believing all commercial fishermen are that scummy, but what they were doing seemed pretty d@*! low. “Sustainable fishing” for them is code for pushing the recreational fishermen out of the game so their multi-ton rapings will continue to be sustainable
This is one of the reasons that I have always been against catch shares! If you notice he always wears a Gulf council hat or shirt. These guys can literally sit on the hill and make millions of dollars off of their catch shares without ever having to catch a fish. It must be nice to have a 400,000 pound quota just given to you that you can pass on to your children. Like I said if I lived On the Gulf, a copy of this video would go to the next meeting as I demanded my right to catch fish. He crossed a line when he decided to go out on his own boat looking for people stealing his fish. This guy is an absolute asshole
