Ok so I have finally talked the “boss” into letting me get a new grill. Trying to decide between the 2. Need yalls pros and cons for each. My only concern is I want to buy 1 grill for the last time. Must be able to handle the weather 2 miles from salt water “rusting” Kinda like the Yeti vs a Coleman. Make the best case and size recommendations.
Love my Lg BGE. The banding, springs, and nest is painted carbon steel. I’m closer to salt than that and mine is fine after 3 years. The P-S Woo Too is aftermarket but a mandatory accessory. Wait until you cook pizza or that first 16 hr BBQ…
I have a BGE but would look hard at the KJ. The only advice I will really stress is go ahead and buy the biggest one you can afford. I have a large and a lot of times I wished I got the XL. I will be adding another to the family soon. Either another large or XL when I do an outdoor kitchen.
I’m not sure you’d be interested, but 3 years ago Me, my son, and son in law all got a Oklahoma Joe’s gas/ charcoal / smoker combo. One of the best grills I’ve ever owned. My only complaint is using gas and cooking with indirect heat, using just one burner you need to prop the door open or heat will creep up too much. Wife got it assembled and I caught heck getting it out of the truck. Kind of heavy. I did get a custome cover for it @ $40 and after 3 years it is very sun faded but still holding together.
I can’t say how it would hold up with salt air, but it is heavy guage and mine does get a little rain on it but no issues yet.

Yo Fred,
Oaklahoma Joe
(sorry to de-rail, couldn’t attach pics in PM)
Got 2, one for each son, made the ride in a 2500 smooth!
Assembled with RTV copper color to seal all joints on smoke end.
Hinged openings sealed with 1/2" wide high temp. seal tape.
Got a sheet of steel from Dicky @ Fields Ornamental to make a heat distribution plate - temp. across box within several degrees now.

Thank you for showing the heat plate you made. When I first got it and was practicing smoking things I could have really used it. Have been using a lot more charcoal lately, but not much smoking. The wife does not like smoked meat.
So i got a egg been awesome still a bit of learning needed but wow it is nice. Got a large almost wish i got the xl. But set it and forget it…surprised price was less than the kj when i got the bundle used it all but one day in 2 weeks
