Fished Hamlin creek last wednesday. Launched the boat at 630am and fished the last hour of the falling tide and the first 3 hours of the rising tide. Threw out fresh shrimp, mm, and blue crab. Caught about 20 small fish consisting of whiting, spots, blues, and even a juevenile grouper. A couple whiting/spots were decent sized. Water temp is rising and was about 73 degrees. I had a quarter of a blue crab sitting on the bottom when my rod bent in half. Battled what happened to be a 32 inch 15lb (atleast thats what my cheapo scale said) red that broke my rod just before I could net him. Luckily it was a cheap okuma longitude and not my st croix or wiggins! I pulled the braided line in and got him into the net, but did sustain a nasty abrasion from the braid, but I refused to let him go. Luckily a kayak fisherman named Kevin was there to take the pic! Thanks again Kevin! Got stopped by 2 dnr officers about an hour later. They just checked my license and cooler. Nice guys and very professional. Being a military cop I appreciate it when I encounter law enforcement that is respectful and polite. I wish I could see them on patrol more on the weekends though.

Red drum LOVE spots…eat them up…in fact some one who worked for DNR and was in the tag program said that’s what they use to catch them with most times…
Thanks guys, it was a good day on the water. The whiting were in the middle of the creek and some were near docks in atleast 6 to 8 feet of water. I just use a size 1 circle hook and a small piece of fresh shrimp on the bottom.
