Is that a whale?

“In every species of fish I’ve angled for, it is the ones that have got away that thrill me the most, the ones that keep fresh in my memory. So I say it is good to lose fish. If we didn’t, much of the thrill of angling would be gone.” Ray Bergman

Did you land that on the light tackle setup behind you?

working on mysteries without any clues

Caught on a mullet, light spinning rod 20lb test 50 lb leader 8oz weight 35 ft of water. 20 min revive time. Fish swam off just as strong as when I brought in. Fish was caught in the area of picture. Good luck finding my contact point. I troll to find my spots the anchor and make huge catches. Read spoonplugging material. Spoonplugger.net

Do you catch the big reds on spoonplugs?

This technique seems really interesting

Yes in the harbor I use solid wire and troll 9 mph in the summer water. The big reds will def take a spoonplug.
I once caught 12 reds in a row on spoonplugs. They were all 18-25 inches. Caught on a falling tide in 9 ft of water. Stacked in the exact same spot. I have hooked some really really big fish in the shipping channel never got any of em up off the bottom.

Jb1and jb2 are bigger spoonplugs a guy John bales is making for saltwater. I had a pig dolphin on last year trolling 28 ft under the surface.

Get the green book and start studying if you apply the techniques you will increase fish catches size and know when where and why.

The charter captains in Biloxi have been trolling for reds for years. Out in the Gulf, we trolled for them with medium sized drone spoons that had a chartreuse finish on one side. These really worked for the larger fish. Once we found the big ones, we would drift with the school and throw smaller lures and spoons to catch the smaller, better tasting fish. We’ve never tried it in the harbor, so thanks for the post. I have always wondered why more people didn’t use this method in the harbor…maybe more will try it now. It truly works folks. I would not have believed it…but fished with my brother out of Ocean Springs MS 10 years ago and we caught way more than we wanted to keep this way.
