My son & I started fishing the Charleston waters a couple months ago. It’s turned out to be great father/son time and a load of fun, even if we didn’t catch much fish. That all changed today! We hooked into 3 over-slotted Big Red’s, a few Red keepers, and a bunch of trout.
We just bought a cast net yesterday and didn’t have much luck yesterday on the few throws we took. He decided today that it was bait or bust - no store bought shrimp. We either had to catch the shrimp or go home cryin’. We found those shrimp, and our first Big Red came on the second cast.
Next time you catch the bait , take along a zip lock bag…save a few extra mullet and freeze or caucus seal them to take Along next time…maybe even throw a crab line…easy to store and can just tie a mullet to t if you don’t want to take bait along…crabs are excellent bait to have too…and you can actually freeze those as well if you catch some and don’t use them all…sharks and reds love them…just remember to measure point <-%-> to point on them and make sure they are five inches across… Glad y’all are catching fish…and bait…and believe me…your son will cherish the memories of time fishing with you.
yep,and when you find a good spot dont post pics on here with the background showing or people will be sitting on your spot next time you go there. use photo bucket to blurr it out. IT sucks to work hard to find spots and then have internet fisherman see them and go there every time they fish.
I’d rather be a free man in my grave than living as a puppet or a slave.
I was going to use Pen’s strategy. Hooked into a bunch of shrimp Saturday around 10. Decided to collect “extra” shrimp but wait until the end of our fishing expedition. Waited too long. They were all gone. I’m learning!
Modified the pic so the secret spot remains just that. Now it looks like JustAboutAnywhereInChuckTown.
Good for you on finding some shrimp! I even keep shrimp heads sometimes for chum…yep…if Donnie’s ever missing…might check my freezer…never know what you’ll find in there…freeze jelly balls too for spade fish…lol. Funny what a hungry fish will eat
It is so funny some of you guys worry about your spots. If you go to the zillow Sat feature and search the area you can see boats in a mess of places.I was checking an area and saw a boat in a tiny creek i did not know you could even go in.I saw my boat tied to my dock.LOL
