Big Reds on spinnerbait (pics)

We’ve been on a good bite in 12 ft of water catching nice 15-25 lb reds on 1/2 oz spinnerbaits.

Wow…tvery strong.

I have never used the spinner baits in saltwater. How do you work your retrieve? Slow, bumping bottom, jigging?

Thanks and nice fish.

Narcosis

I’ve been tempted to try that since I read an article about how bass fishermen use the same techniques and bait on redfish as they do on bass and have good results.

If you’re lucky enough to be fishing, you’re lucky enough.

I have caught a bunch of reds on spinner baits as well but you better make sure and get some with salt water type hooks. The big reds will straighten out the freshwater versions in a heartbeat.

Nice job. Love throwing spinner baits for reds!

How many of that size red can you catch on that style (molded arm) spinnerbait before the wire breaks?

Haven’t broken the wire yet. But after two fish we toss the beat up lure and tie on another.

Nice job Steve…It is fun catching nice Reds on spinner baits.

Nice bottom pic. If you’re gonna use spinnerbait and or rooster tails for reds you gotta get saltwater metal. Freshwater won’t stand up to the fish or the water for long.

I’m so salt life I get land sick.

Great stuff man! I am most curious about how you present a spinner in 12’ of water with current to a fish that typically hugs bottom. Are you pitching up current, fishing slack tides, or are you just able to work that 1/2 ouncer slowly and keep her down? Heck, maybe you aren’t having to keep her down…

Good question - You can’t do it on all tides and I feel free to add various size bullet weights above the swivel as needed to tick the bottom.

Congrats, nice fish! i use those terminator spinner baits w the titanium arm. they run true on the next cast no matter how much pressure you put on the arm while fight a fish. i caught 10 over 30 inches on it the other day and it still runs just like day one. i dont even know if they still make those things. i have had mine for many years.

they still make them.
