and what a day it has been! The first blue came to the scales at noon today and it is bigger than anything caught the last 3 years at 609 lbs. They landed their fish in 45 minutes! I’m not sure if they were entered in Fabulous Fisherman level or not but if so, then they are looking at a bonus of close to $300,000. Carnivore, the winner of the 2010 Big Rock tourney, got on the board with a 410 lb Blue, and Inspiration is on their way to the scales with a “big one” that took about 6 hours to catch and is reportedly 129" long…They are estimated to arrive at the scales at 6 PM this evening… Follow the tournament on Twitter @bigrockfishing for easy updates and photos…
They made a $300,00 mistake I am told. 754.5 weighed in about 6:00pm.
Growing old is MANDATORY, Growing up is OPTIONAL!
Looks like neither of the first 2 boats with fish > 500lbs were in the Fabulous Fishing level.
I was curious about what it would have cost them to get into it, so I looked it up…$5K

I can’t believe they didn’t go all in with their recent success in the tournament(2nd in 2012).
One boat struck by lighting this morning. Disabled engines. Had to get Sea Tow.

The fishing has been really good. One Blue was boated today after a long fight but it didn’t meet the 400 lb minimum. It weighed 346 lbs. The tournament rules allow the captains to choose which 4 days of the six that they want to fish. With the $306,000 Fabulous Fisherman bonus is still in play for the 53 boats that paid the $5,000 fee, the majority of boats will probably fish again tomorrow.
There is also a cash prize of nearly $69,000 for the largest dolphin weighed in this week. Haphazard weighed in a 45.5 lb dolphin on Monday and Sandrita tied it today with a 45.5 lb dolphin. But the tiebreaker goes to Haphazard for catching theirs first. Sandrita could still win $6,700 if it can hold on to 2nd largest dolphin for the week. I’m betting a 50 lb bull dolphin will show up before is over though…

If you’ve had fun catching fish on the transom bait, you are welcome…
I’ve spent about 85% of my life’s wages on fishing, the rest I just wasted…
