big saluda 11/25

Decided to make the trip to the top for the first time. Fished with Seahunt0012 and his bro in law. I must say its kinda overwhelming looking at a map of a new to me area and deciding where to fish. Not to mention not having a map card in the gps to at least show the channel.

Started fishing around where bush comes into the saluda, but really couldnt find the channel but started to fish anyway. Pulled boards and a float with some downrods in 12’ of water for awhile till we finally found the channel. Never really marked anything that i though was solid fish but the amount of bait everywhere was unreal.

Eventually picked up a fish on the homemade redi rig float i had made. (Must say it works great). Then quickly picked up another. Decided to pull in the DR’s and rig for shallow water since both fish came in less than 10’. Rigged 4 boards and a float to fish shallow. Worked the same area and caught 3 more with one coming unglued boat side.

5 fish caught all keepers 22-24". The one that spit the hook was the same as the others.

Headed back to try again either tue or wed probably.

Welcome to river fishing Murrymaker! The area you mention can be very productive indeed. We’ve pulled hundreds of keepers out of there over the past few years.

It’s a different world up there. You have to rely on your instincts and read the water and birds rather than your graph. If you do decide to go up farther, be careful and take your time. Many a prop and lower unit has been damaged rounding the corner and heading to Kempsons Bridge and above.

I had really proud feeling when I was first successful up there. I know you feel the same!

Nice trip
Where did you launch from up there?

War Eagle 754 Ducks Unlimited - Yamaha 75

we launched from larry koon. only reason why we put in there was to show seth where it was and to cover more water to look for bird activity. Ride wasn’t bad, didn’t really seem like it took that long.

If planning on fishing up there like I am tomorrow (if they don’t need me in the morn) I will put in probably either big mans or the next bridge.
