Big Sky, MT

Headed out there in exactly 1 month for a full week. Had a buddy take a job at the ski resort and has offered me lodging and discounted ski rental as long as I show him how to long rod it. Anyone experienced the area and the fishing?

Gallatin River flows base of mtn. March can be tough, think heavy stonefly rigs with san juan or egg dropper. If you can make it to Missouls area, you could hit the skwala hatch, huge stoneflies hatching with no crowds, best big dry fly fishing in west. Grey Drakes hatch at same time.

X2 on big stoneflies with a San Juan. Trout love a nice bubblegum pink SJW. Can’t every really go wrong with an egg and a midge, but I hate throwing that combo

I’ve gt a buddy who just moved back to charleston from Big Sky after a few years. Give me a holler and I’ll put you in touch with him.

Bulldog, I am the guy Rapchizzle is talking about. Lived in Big Sky for two years and Bozeman for a year. I lived with a guide and did a ton of fly fishing while out there.

We can talk via PM or email or if you want to meet up for a beer and I can talk your ear off about it. My friend still lives in BS and works at Gallatin River Guides on 191, right outside the town. He can put you on some fish or at least tell you what they are biting on.

You are also very close to Yellowstone NP. You can fish the firehole, and make a trip to Bozeman and fish the Yellowstone and Madison.

Sick area to fish, but March is a little early. Firehole might be your best bet.

Yeah I’m flying into boseman which is where most if the fishing will take place.
