Is that when you wonder if your drag is a little too tight? I actually had it happen cut baiting in a tournamnet this year. Decent fish but I did not have a good grip in it when taking it ot of the rod holder. Watched that Ugly Stick and 6500 C3 head across the water.

This doesn’t surprise me. I have watched TV shows of them trolling for stripes up there and never slow down to reel a fish in. Have seen them ski double digit fish in.

I think woody was telling about how they lock drags down and never stop the boat when Pattiane was looking for a trophy trip.

He had to be set at about 30# of drag. Add in the variable for the rod length and bend, plus the length of line and he was probably pushing over 50# drag pressure and trying to hold the rod like that.

I guess lesson learned, should have had a belt on.

Yea…they usually set the drag super tight and normally use stainless steel wire line. Works like leadcore, but stronger, sinks faster and not easy at all to work with. I never cared much for it, but it sure puts fish in the boat.
